The benefits of simplicity

Simplicity unlocks clarity.

One of the things I love most about being on expedition is the simplicity of day to day life.

Life gets stripped back to the basic human needs: food, water, shelter.

I have everything with me that I need to survive and it turns out I don't actually need that much! Everything that comes with me, hauled with my own strength is useful. And it makes me appreciate every single thing.

When life is simple, it's easy to find joy in the smallest of things.

The taste of food when I'm hungry, the relief of thirst when I drink water, the warmth of the sun as it comes out from behind the clouds, the sparkle of the ice crystals in the air.

And this simplicity creates space for a clear mind. To observe, reflect and just be.

It's so easy to get bogged down with stuff we just don't need and I really feel this whenever I come back from expedition. So I've been trying to live a bit more simply. Owning less but making sure everything I do own is good quality and useful. Trying to cram less into my day, but being fully present in everything I do in that day.

It's a journey, but already I'm feeling the clarity and lightness it's creating. Less really can be more.
